A gathering of Grieving Awake
Grieving Aloud
A sacred space to give grief a voice.
Every Other Sunday · Live Online · Free to Attend
There are so few places in this world where we are allowed to grieve out loud.
To cry without apology.
To sound without explanation.
To let our bodies express what words cannot hold.
To be witnessed without anyone trying to fix us.
Grieving Aloud is one of those places.
A live, communal gathering where we come together to honor our grief through presence, prayer, meditation, breath, voice, rhythm, and silence.
No performance. No fixing. No expectations.
Just a place to be human, together.
Your Grief Has a Voice.
And it deserves to be heard.
Across cultures and throughout history, human beings have gathered to mourn. We have sung, chanted, wept, keened, drummed, prayed, and held vigil together.
Grief was never meant to be something we had to carry silently or entirely alone.
Yet somewhere along the way, many of us learned to quiet our sorrow. To hold back our tears. To make our grief more comfortable for everyone else.
Here, you don’t have to.
Whether your grief comes from the death of someone you love, a life that has changed, an ending, a longing, or something you cannot quite name, you are welcome.
You don’t have to explain your grief to belong here.
What Happens at Grieving Aloud?
Each gathering is a gently facilitated experience of embodied grief tending.
Together, we may explore:
- Grounding & Presence
- Arriving in our bodies, finding our breath, and creating a compassionate space for whatever is here.
- Prayer & Meditation
- Opening to the sacred through guided reflection, contemplation, and moments of stillness.
- Voice & Sound
- Humming, toning, chanting, sighing, singing, or simply allowing the natural sounds of grief to move through us.
- Rhythm & Expression
- Using drums, rattles, and the rhythm of our own bodies to support expression and connection.
- Communal Witnessing
- Being present with one another without advice, judgment, or the need to change anyone’s experience.
- Silence & Integration
- Making space to rest, receive, and gently return to ourselves.
Every gathering will be a little different.
You are always free to participate in whatever way feels right for you. You may sound, cry, listen, rest, laugh, or simply be still.
There is no right way to grieve. And nothing you need to prove.
Come Exactly As You Are.
You don’t need any experience with meditation, singing, chanting, or drumming.
You don’t even need to know what you’re grieving.
Bring a drum or rattle if you have one. Otherwise, bring your beautiful human voice.
And if all you can bring is yourself, that is more than enough.
Tears are welcome. Silence is welcome. You are welcome.
Honoring Our Sacred Container
The tenderness of this space is something we create together.
To protect the integrity of our gathering, we share a few simple agreements.
- We honor the sacredness of the space.
- We meet one another with compassion, respect, and an open heart.
- Cameras must remain on.
- To be part of the circle, please keep your camera on throughout the gathering. Participants with cameras off will be removed from the meeting.
- We protect one another’s privacy.
- Our gatherings are not recorded. We ask everyone to honor confidentiality and never share another person’s story outside the circle.
- We allow authentic expression.
- Tears, sounds, laughter, silence, and the full range of human emotion are welcome.
- We share with care.
- This is a space for embodied experience rather than lengthy storytelling. When sharing is invited, we speak from our hearts, with care for the whole circle, and avoid graphic details.
- We witness without fixing.
- No unsolicited advice, analysis, or attempts to change another person’s experience.
- We honor our own boundaries.
- You are always welcome to pause, step away, or participate quietly. Nothing is forced.
Our intention is to create a space where grief can be met with reverence, tenderness, and loving presence.

Meet Your Facilitator
Rev. Joya Sosnowski
Author of the #1 Amazon bestseller Grieving Awake
I’m a grief priestess, spiritual teacher, sound medicine woman, and mother who knows firsthand that grief can take us beyond anything words can express.
After the death of my beloved son, Weston, I came to know grief not simply as an emotion, but as an experience that moves through every dimension of our being.
I also came to understand how profoundly we need spaces where our grief is not silenced, rushed, analyzed, or asked to become something else.
My work brings together decades of mindfulness practice, spiritual inquiry, sound, and somatic approaches to grief.
I created Grieving Aloud because I believe we need to remember something deeply human:
We can grieve together. We can sound together. We can be with what hurts without trying to make it disappear.
And we can discover that even here, in the midst of grief, we are still alive.
